Helping the Helper

Many careers such as being a nurse, doctor, psychologist, paramedic, fire fighter, police person, human rights officer, humanitarian worker etc face working with traumatised people every day. This can mean having to constantly respond to crises, having to work at a fast pace all the time, and in some cases in an under resourced and unrelenting environment. The constant crises, along with the witnessing of trauma, having a big heart and desire to help and prioritise those that are suffering, can make the person simply unable to think of themselves and/or find it selfish to prioritise their own wellbeing, until their body and/or mental health is screaming.

I have extensive experience of working with people in emergency settings and crisis zones all over the world who work as emergency doctors and nurses, psychologists, human rights officers, peacekeepers, humanitarian workers etc.

This type of work puts people at high risk of burnout, vicarious and secondary trauma. I help individuals and organisations to prevent, intervene early or treat these conditions. It’s so important to take care of yourself in order to continue to help others. A cliche but really is a fact if you want to continue to help others long term and also be well and enjoy your own life.

Let me help you to process any traumas you witness or hear about and learn how to find a balance, feel you still contribute meaningfully but also thrive…
